The M. Thompson

In support of The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 535.

Mr. Thompson joined the Army in 1965. His Father swore him in. Having the ability to get a security clearance, Michael was assigned to the Army Security Agency as a Teletype Intercept. In Aug of 66-67 Specialists Thompson was assigned to Phu Bai Combat Base in central Vietnam. During his time in Vietnam Michael would be attached to the 5th Special Forces Group MACV-SOG. What he remembered most about those men was that they were relatively quiet and got the job done. I asked him about the living conditions and he simply said, … Hot and my mosquito net was a treasured item. ‚ The uniform that he donated was 1 of 3 issued Tiger Stripes. Two of the uniforms he wore until they fell apart. The nice one, the one we have, was used occasionally and was gifted to his son. Who then used it to make custom hats for him and his Dad. That ¢â€žÂ¢s how we all met.

It was truly an honor to talk with Sergeant Thompson on the phone. His return home from the war was met with protestors and he often thought how being in Nam was easier than being in the US. He was appreciated on Camp, everyone took care of each other. This is our first Vietnam era hat launch. Please consider purchasing.
